CM Murad releases Rs463 million funds for rain emergency measures

Karachi: the Sindh government on Wednesday allocated 463 million rupees to deal with emergencies after heavy downpours hit various parts of Karachi during the recent monsoon spells, ARY News reported.

These funds were released on the orders of the Chief Minister of Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah.



According to detailed data, on July 26, the provincial government allocated 200 million rupees for the solid waste emergency and efficiency improvement (SWEEP) project.

The spokesman said the funds were used for emergency rain purposes and cleaning up Karachi's storm drains.

Giving details of the funds, cm Murad said in a statement that the Sindh government had allocated 229 million rupees for divisional commissioners on July 2.

“Out of a total of 229 million rupees, 30 million were transferred to the Karachi Commissioner for rain emergency measures," Murad said.

"The government of Sindh has allocated four million rupees for the Eastern district, Karachi, Sadi city, and Mehran drainage, as rains heavily affected these areas last year.”

Murad Ali Shah said he had instructed the local government Department to prepare a detailed plan, highlighting low-lying areas, encroachments, clogging drains (nulls) in Karachi.

“I need a reliable mechanism to save low-lying areas where rainwater has flooded homes, " he added.

It is appropriate to report that Karachi has been overshadowed by civil problems, conditions have worsened due to recent rains, which have led to clogging of drains and flooding of several districts of the metropolis with rainwater mixed with sewage.

Heavy downpours flooded Orangi city, Surjani city, Clifton, Gadap city, garden city, Federal district b, Jamshed road and Old town on Sunday, causing power outages in several areas of the city.
