Senior journalist Matiullah Jan, who was allegedly kidnapped from sector G-6 of the Federal capital earlier in the day, was released late on Tuesday, family sources confirmed. He was released near Fateh Jang, a small town in Punjab.
Jan, who is said to be in a stable condition, went home with his brother Shahid Akbar.
The first news report (FIR) about the alleged abduction of a senior journalist was submitted by his brother to the Aabpara police station.
Yang, speaking on a private news channel after his return, said his captors blindfolded him and took him to an unknown destination. He said he was later released in Fateh Jang after being taken around the city.
Federal Minister of science and technology Fawad Chaudhry expressed his delight at the news. "Welcome back," he wrote on his official Twitter account.
