SHC warns contempt proceedings over non-compliance

Arachi: The Sindh high court (SHC) on Wednesday expressed its indignation at the failure to comply with a court order to remove an illegal cattle market from the Lyari district, ARY News reported.

"Concerned government departments should face contempt of court proceedings for failing to comply with a court order”" a high court panel said as it listened to a petition against the illegal animal market at bakra Piri in Lyari.

The high court of Sindh (SHC) ordered the applicant to file a contempt of court petition against the relevant departments. Earlier, a lawyer for the District Municipal Corporation (DMC) South told the court that DMC had written letters to the police and other departments to remove the animal market from the area. “A law and order situation may arise if the livestock market is removed from this location," the lawyer said.

"The DMC did not grant permission for a cattle market in the area,” the lawyer said.

"The DMC issued a no-objection certificate (NOC) to establish an animal market in the area,” the applicant's lawyer told the court.

DMC's lawyer requested a copy of the NOC to verify the authorization letter.

"The concerned agencies violated the court's order, none of these agencies will remain without a lawsuit,” the court warned.
